Holiday Hack: 4-Ingredient Cherry Pie
Do you love a freshly-baked dessert, but are intimidated by the process? If so, this recipe is for you! With only 4 ingredients, this decadent cherry pie is the holiday hack you will repeat year after year.
Ingredients:
2 store-bought pie crusts
1 jar (1lb. 5oz) Bonne Maman cherry pie filling
1 egg (for egg wash)
Raw sugar (for finishing)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F.Prepare the Pie Crusts
Unroll one of the store-bought pie crusts and place it in a 9-inch pie dish. Gently press the crust into the dish, making sure it's even around the edges. Trim any excess dough around the edges, leaving a small overhang. Using a fork, poke holes all over the dough resting in the base of the pie dish.Blind Bake the Crust Place the pie dish in the preheated oven for 12 minutes. This will partially bake the crust, ensuring it doesn’t get soggy once you add the pie filling.
Fill the Pie
Open the jar of Bon Maman cherry pie filling and stir it gently to evenly distribute the cherries and syrup. Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.Add the Top Crust
Unroll the second pie crust and place it over the top of the pie. Trim any excess dough and pinch the edges of the top and bottom crusts together to seal them. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch. For added holiday flair, use festive cookie cutters – I used Christmas trees – and cut shapes that you can place on top of the pie filling. If you choose to do this, you can skip step 6.Create Vents
Use a small knife to cut several slits or a decorative pattern into the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.Egg Wash
In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top crust to give it a golden, shiny finish. Sprinkle with raw sugar for an extra touch of sweetness and shine.Bake the Pie
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. If the edges of the crust start to brown too quickly, you can cover them with aluminum foil.Cool and Serve
Allow the pie to cool for at least 4 hours before slicing. This will help the filling set and make it easier to serve. Enjoy it as-is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Tips:
If you want to make the pie extra special, you can add a sprinkle of cinnamon or almond extract to the cherry filling for a unique flavor twist.
Enjoy!
